The Town of Brihuega

Brihuega:

A natural enviroment full of history

La Alcarria is a rare example of a non-mountainous area that offers a strong contrast with reliefs as different as moors, extensive countryside with fertile planes, valleys, hills and steep slopes. To the natural environment an amazing popular architecture and the attractiveness of monumental cities loaded with history are added. This is the case of Brihuega, located in the heart of the Alcarria, nestled in an exceptional landscape environment such as the Tajuña Valley, and one of the most famous, picturesque and most historic villas in Guadalajara.

What to visit

Brihuega is charming for its situation, for its surroundings, for being full of artistic jewels and for the sympathy of its inhabitants. Its historic center has a fantastic Plaza Mayor, two Romanesque churches of great beauty and a very particular building: the Royal Cloth Factory, whose gardens have come to compare with those of the Palace of Versailles. It also has walls of Arab origin, rebuilt in the twelfth century, which retain two of its doors: that of the Chain and that of the Cozazón. To contemplate its grandeur, it is highly recommended to cross the arch and get away a little along the old road, to enjoy a beautiful view of the preserved wall cloths, in addition to the river Tajuña valley. In our tour you can not miss the visit to the Convent of San José and the Castle, also of Arab origin, which retains its walled enclosure and inside which we can see the Chapel of Vera Cruz.
